TAG Heuer first revealed its intentions to offer a smartwatch back in September. The luxury watchmaker owned by French luxury group LVMH provided few details at the time, revealing only that it planned to launch at least one model sometime early next year. A new report now suggests that the launch could come as early as CES 2015 in early January.
Business Insider has learned that the TAG Heuer smartwatch will “likely” be powered by an Intel processor. It will also look more like a traditional watch than most smartwatches we have seen to date. While a touchscreen is unlikely, it will sport a wider range of sensors to allow it to capture data such as steps taken, calories burned and your sleep patterns. The collected data would then be presumably presented via a mobile device app.
While TAG Heuer does not appear as an exhibitor at CES 2015, its rumoured partner will not only be an exhibitor but its CEO will deliver the keynote. Perhaps it has left it to Intel to make the announcement. Then again, even Business Insider suggests that the announcement may not happen until later in the quarter. If so, the TAG Heuer smartwatch could make its debut at Baselworld in March.
One thing is clear: Look for TAG Heuer to enter the smartwatch market sometime in early 2015.
