It would appear that Sprint Wireless decided to pull an April Fools prank a bit later than usual. Earlier this week, a Nexus 5 support page was update to show that a new Android build was now the most recent version, leading to speculation that the carrier was about to start pushing out the update to its customers. The new build, identified as KTU48F was to have provided “miscellaneous Android updates” as well as support for two new Spark LTE bands.
Three days later, not only have Sprint Nexus 5 owners not seen any sign of KTU48F but it has now vanished from the online support page as well. Build KRT49H which was released in early December 2013 has now reassumed the title of current version. Sprint has yet to provide any explanation for the appearance and later disappearance of KTU48F.
With Android 4.4.3 reportedly underway internally at Google, it is quite possible that Sprint simply got ahead of itself. When it realized its mistake, it simply pulled the information down again.
If nothing else, the brief appearance of Android 4.4.3 on Sprint’s website is one more sign that the maintenance release is coming soon. Unfortunately, we’re back to guessing exactly when that will be.
Thanks, Pete!
