Earlier rumours have already suggested that the next HTC flagship will not be known as the HTC One (M9) and will instead adopt a new name. What that name might be though remained a mystery. A fresh rumour courtesy of @upleaks this week suggests that the new device will be codenamed HTC Hima. Better yet, he’s also given us our first glimpse at what could well be the HTC Hima’s specifications.
Details revealed certainly fall in line with what we can expect to see in early 2015.Here is what is known so far about the HTC Hima:
- Processor: Octa-core (4@2.0GHz / 4@1.5GHz) Qualcomm Snapdragon 810
- Operating system: Google Android 5.0 Lollipop with HTC Sense 7.0
- Cellular connectivity: VoLTE/CA/LTE Cat.6
- Display: 5-inch Full HD (1080×1920)
- RAM: 3GB
- Rear-facing camera: 20.7MP
- Front-facing camera: 13MP or 4MP UltraPixel
- Battery: 2,840mAh
Followup tweets suggest that all major U.S. carriers will offer the HTC Hima. Given that a number of Canadian carriers offered the HTC One (M8), it’s almost certain that the HTC Hima will similarly be offered by more than one.
Before you get too excited, an earlier rumour also purported to give us the specifications of HTC’s next flagship smartphone and they are quite different. China’s MyDrivers suggests the following:
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 805
- Operating system: Google Android 5.0 Lollipop
- Display: 5.5-inch WQHD (2560×1440)
- RAM: 3GB
- Internal storage: 64GB or 128GB
- Rear-facing camera: 16MP with OIS
- Battery: 3,500mAh
- Other: Aluminum silicon-carbide composite body
The report adds that HTC is looking to partner with Bose as its new audio partner now that Apple owns Beats.
Also interesting is the claim that HTC will continue with its current naming convention and that the new device will be known as the HTC M9 or HTC One (M9). It also suggests that an M9 Prime is also in the works (something we had heard before).
The two reports appear to agree on a launch date. @upleaks suggests that it will take place in March at MWC 2015 along with new Desire smartphones while MyDrivers also suggests an MWC launch.
One thing is certain: HTC will release its next flagship smartphone in early 2015. Between now and then, we can expect more rumours to surface and eventually shed a more consistent light on what we can expect to see.
