Sony is expected to release the Xperia Z3 as its flagship smartphone for the crucial holiday shopping season. Also known as the Sony D6653, we’ve already caught a glimpse of its specifications and images courtesy of the now retired @evleaks. It has now resurfaced on the website of China’s TENAA telecommunication equipment regulator with specifications in tow.
The latest specifications reconfirm what earlier rumours had suggested. Namely, the Sony Xperia Z3 will not be a huge departure from the current Xperia Z2 flagship. Here is what TENAA tells us about the device:
- Processor: 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801ac
- Operating System: Google Android 4.4 KitKat
- Display: 5.2-inch Full HD (1080×1920)
- RAM: 3GB
- Internal storage: 16GB
- External storage: MicroSD cards up to 128GB
- Rear-facing camera: 20.7MP with Sony Exmor RS sensor with 4K video capture
- Front-facing camera: 2.1MP
- Dimensions: 146.5 × 72.4 × 8.2 millimeters
- Weight: 158 grams
All in all, the Xperia Z3 looks to be a slightly smaller and lighter version of the Xperia Z2. But under the hood, there are very few changes except for the modest processor bump.
Not listed on TENAA’s website is whether the Xperia Z3 will be waterproof but it would be a surprise if it turned out not to be. With Sony having just announced the Xperia M2 Aqua with IP65/IP68, perhaps this will be another area where the Xperia Z3 is better than the Xperia Z2 which has an IP55/IP58 rating.
Sony is expected to unveil the Xperia Z3 along with a compact version, the Xperia Z3 Compact, and possibly even an Xperia Z3 tablet at its IFA 2014 press event.
