Sony has already had a busy 2014. Announcements at CES 2014 for the Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z1S were followed up with the unveiling of the Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia E1. Rumours have also told us that two new flagship devices, known as the Sirius and Canopus are in the works. A leak yesterday gave us some details about the Canopus and now we have new information about the Sirius.
The Sirius is expected to launch as the Xperia Z2. While we have already seen a very blurry image, much clearer images of the back plate have now surfaced. Styling is very much in line with current Xperia devices. The most noticeable difference appears to be the finish. Gone is glass in favour a what appears to be a matte metallic finish. We also see the Xperia logo.
Fortunately, the same source, who incidentally claims to be working in Sony’s R&D department, also provided a few new details about this new smartphone. It will reportedly have a 5.3-inch display without a mention of resolution, sport a 23MP rear camera and launch in five colours. It would appear that Sony may have decided to go for a more significant update than initial rumours suggested.
Last but not least, a February announcement appearts to be in the cards for the Xperia Z2. If so, the unveiling could well happen at MWC 2014.
