Samsung yesterday began to send out press invitations for an event set to take place at the Red Dot Design Museum in Singapore on April 29. The tagline, “Kapture the moment,” suggests that a camera will be the focus of the event. Both the K in Kapture as well as the stylized K logo are also likely a hint about the name. In fact, the expectation is that the Korean manufacturer will unveil the Samsung Galaxy K at its latest event.
The Samsung Galaxy K is expected to be none other than the new name for the oft-rumoured Galaxy S5 Zoom. If correct, the move suggests that Samsung may build up its Galaxy line of devices with new letter designations rather than diluting its flagship Galaxy S brand with different models as it did in the past. For example, Samsung last year followed up the Galaxy S4 with the Galaxy S4 Zoom, Galaxy S4 mini and Galaxy S4 Active. If so, perhaps the rumoured premium version of the Galaxy S5 will indeed launch as the Galaxy F as has been hinted at in the past.
Past reports have indicated that the Samsung Galaxy K (or the Galaxy S5 Zoom if you prefer) will come with a hexa-core (2 × 1.7GHz + 4 × 1.3GHz) Samsung Exynos 5260 processor, Google Android 4.4.2 with TouchWiz, a 4.8-inch HD (720×1280) AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM, a 2.1MP front camera and a 20.1MP rear camera with OIS, Xenon flash and 10x optical zoom.
Pricing and availability details should be revealed on April 29.
