After unveling its first smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear, (if we don’t count the SPH-WP10 standalone watchphone launched in 1999) in 2013, Samsung unveiled a range of new Gear devices in 2014. It launched five new wearables, including the fitness-focused Gear Fit and the Gear S with built-in 3G connectivity which was announced at September’s IFA 2014 event. Early signs suggest that Samsung will have an equally if not busier 2015. At least five new Gear devices are planned if a model number list obtained by Chinese leaker @upleaks is any indication:
- SM-R131
- SM-R210
- SM-R312
- SM-R751
- SM-R760
Little is known about any of these at this point. Most will presumably run Tizen but we could also see new models running Android Wear (to succeed the Samsung Gear Live).
Giving credence to these model numbers, the SM-R210 has also popped up on India’s Zauba imports tracking database. The description reveals little except that it is a “Bluetooth accessory” on its to India for R&D purposes.
With both CES and MWC set to take place in early 2015, it may not be long before Samsung unveils its next generation lineup of Gear wearables.
