Recent rumours about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4 have suggested that it would come with a 16MP ISOCELL rear camera. A new report now suggests that Samsung may drop this 16MP camera in favour of a 12MP camera. The move may not make much sense at first glance but the new camera would incorporate Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), a feature we have yet to see on Samsung devices.
The Galaxy Note devices have typically used the same camera as on the matching Galaxy S smartphone but Samsung may have decided to break with tradition to keep the Galaxy Note 4 as thin as possible while incorporating the new feature. It’s possible that it may have also had difficulties incorporating OIS on the 16 MP camera or had concerns about ensuring sufficient stock to meet expected demand.
The report adds that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will use the same 3.7MP front camera as on the Galaxy S5. Other rumoured specifications include a WQHD (2560×1440) display (already confirmed thanks to a UAProfile file), Android 4.4 KitKat, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and either a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 or octa-core Samsung Exynos 5433 processor depending on market.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 4 at IFA 2014 in early September. It could also unveil a range of other devices including a Gear VR headset and Gear Glass smartglasses.
The report adds that Samsung will keep a new 20MP camera for next year’s Samsung Galaxy S 6.
SamMobile advises that we take this rumour “with a giant pinch of salt” so we’ll pass on their warning.
