Samsung Galaxy S6 to be unveiled at CES 2015?

Samsung Galaxy S logoRumours in late 2013 suggested that Samsung might unveil the Galaxy S5 as early as January 2014. As we now know, They proved false as Samsung unveiled its newest (at the time) flagship smartphone at an event during MWC 2014 in late February 2014 instead. Similar rumours have now resurfaced, this time suggesting that the Galaxy S6 will be announced sometime in January 2015, possibly even at CES 2015.

The latest claim comes from analysts at Mirae Asset Securities, a South Korean firm. They expect Samsung to unveil both the Galaxy S6 and a dual-edged version similar to the Galaxy Note 4 Edge. By year’s end, they estimate that Samsung Galaxy S6 shipments could top 45 million units. The Galaxy S6 Edge could account for nearly a quarter of those shipments.

Based on early rumours, the Samsung Galaxy S6 could pack an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, Android 5.0 Lollipop with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface, 3GB of RAM, at least 32GB of onboard storage and a 16MP or 20MP rear camera. An international variant powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is also a likely possibility.

Is an earlier launch date in 2015 realistic? With Galaxy S5 sales not having lived up to company goals, it is plausible that Samsung is looking to an earlier launch to give it an edge over its competition. On the other hand, we have seen few leaks about the Galaxy S6, suggesting otherwise. If the Galaxy S5 is any indication, the launch will be preceded by a raft of leaks giving us an early glimpse at specifications and the look of the upcoming device.
