With Samsung expected to unveil its next flagship smartphone in early 2015, it’s no surprise that the rumour mill is picking up speed. Past rumours have suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S6 (or Project Zero as it is reportedly codenamed) would sport an all-metal body and that it might launch as early as January 2015 at CES. A new report suggests that a prototype has made its way to Samsung’s Indian test center as the SM-G920F.
India’s Zauba import tracking database shows that the SM-G920F entered the country on December 17. The shipment consisted fo a single unit. The entry reveals very little about the device, simply describing it as a “sample Samsung smartphone.” Pricing is set at INR18,938 (about CA$350). As we have seen in the past though, Zauba pricing is often not representative of actual street pricing.
While the Zauba entry does little to connect the SM-G920F directly to the Samsung Galaxy S6 or Project Zero, the two were called one and the same by an earlier rumour. The SM-G920F appears to be a European variant and only one of a number planned for different carriers and markets across the world.
As for specifications, we expect the Samsung Galaxy S6 to come with a 5.5-inch WQHD (2560×1440) display and 3GB of RAM. Samsung could once adopt a dual processor strategy with either an octa-core Exynos 7420 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 depending on market. Variants could also sport 32GB, 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.
It remains to be seen if Samsung will indeed launch the Samsung Galaxy S6 at CES 2015. Our guess is that a dedicated event later in the quarter is more likely.
