Samsung will unveil its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, at its Unpacked5 event at Mobile World Congress next week. Those looking to get their hands on it may not have to wait very long to do so if GSMArena is right. Citing both an unnamed Samsung executive as well as “other trustworthy sources,” it reports that the new smartphone could land on shelves as early as three weeks after the announcement. That would put the launch date for sometime in the week of March 17.
Doing so could give Samsung a huge advantage over its competition. Sony is expected to announce its latest smartphones at MWC 2014 as well but it remains to be seen if they could then have it on shelves as quickly. It could be even worse for HTC which is not scheduled to announce its latest flagship (the All New HTC One) until March 25.
This does not necessarily mean that it will be available everywhere on that date though. While the Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to launch pretty much in every corner of the globe, a staggered rollout is most likely. Which countries will see it first is still not clear although Korea, the company’s home country, is a good bet.
As for the Galaxy S5 itself, we’ll have to see if Samsung will unveil both a premium version with a WQHD (2560×1440) display, 3GB of RAM and a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974AC) processor and a standard one with a Full HD (1920×1080) display, 2GB of RAM and a new 1.5GHz octa-core Samsung Exynos 5422 processor paired with an ARM Mali-T628 GPU. All should be revealed Monday.
