With Samsung and Apple the two largest smartphone manufacturers in the world, it’s no surprise that their handsets garner a lot of attention. This is particularly true when it comes to their future flagship smartphones. Both the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Apple iPhone 6 have both been the topic of more than a few rumours over the past weeks and months. South Korean brokerage firm KDB Daewoo Securities (a reliable source according to OLED-Display.net News) issued a note to its clients that claims to have the specifications for both devices.
Interestingly, while most recent rumours have suggested that the Galaxy S5 will come with a Full HD (1080×1920) display (such as the SM-G900P for Sprint Wireless), the firm suggests instead that it will indeed come with a WQHD (2560×1440) one. With rumours often hinting at a premium version of the Galaxy S5 to launch alongside a standard version, these may well be the specifications of the former.
Naturally, the two devices end up side by side to show us how they measure up against each other:
As for Apple’s next iPhone, the indications are again that it will indeed have a larger display. A 4.7-inch or 4.8-inch display appears to be on tap for this next model. Apple could also bump the resolution up to 2272 by 1280 pixels (hitting 510PPI) although a lower-resolution FHD display is still possible.
On a pure specification basis, it appears that this version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 will outclass the iPhone 6 but Apple has proven in the past that hardware is only part of the picture. It remains to be seen if either device will convince fans from the other camp to defect over.
Samsung also appears to have the upper hand when it comes to a launch. The Samsung Galaxy S5 could launch at least one quarter earlier than the iPhone 6.
