Samsung has just unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S5. The official press release only indicated that it would be available across the globe starting in April leaving us to wonder what the plans would be for Canada. Samsung Canada has now answered this question and confirmed that it will be coming here (no big surprise right?) with 11 carriers already on board: Bell, Eastlink, Fido, Koodo, MTS, Rogers, SaskTel, TELUS, Videotron, Virgin Mobile and WIND Mobile.
“Today, Samsung introduced its most innovative and efficient addition to its smartphone lineup, the Samsung Galaxy S5,” said Paul Brannen, senior VP, enterprise and mobile solutions, Samsung Canada. “We are very proud of this device and we are confident that it will help power Canadians’ lives by providing them with the technology that allows them to play more, do more and share more.”
Pre-regisration pages have already gone up for the following carriers:
- Bell
- Eastlink
- MTS (just a banner)
- SaskTel (just a banner)
- TELUS Mobility
- Videotron
- Virgin Mobile Canada
- WIND Mobile
Instead of pre-registration, Rogers is giving customers the option to reserve their Samsung Galaxy S5 starting today through the Rogers Reservation System. Fido, Rogers’ flanker brand, is also taking reservations.
Samsung Canada would only say that the Galaxy S5 is coming “later this year” without providing a specific time frame. Details as to pricing and colours options were also not provided today. But both Bell’s and Videotron’s preregistration page indicates that it is indeed coming in April, suggesting that Canada will be part of the initial global rollout in some 150 countries.
Note: We have updated this post as carriers launched their pre-registration pages.
