When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S5 at Mobile World Congress, it unveiled a single model whereas rumours had consistently hinted that two were in the works. That second model, essentially a higher-end model sporting a metal body and a WQHD (2560×1440) display was a no-show at the event. But it continues to be the topic of too many rumours to simply rule out. Just last week, the mysterious Samsung SM-G906S popped up on a benchmark website with a WQHD display in tow, renewing speculation. Now pictures of an alleged Samsung device sporting such a display have turned up as well.
The images posted by @WindyLeak show a device hidden away in a test chassis. As a result, it’s impossible to tell exactly what the device will look like. All we see is the display, the physical home button and the ports. One detail that has emerged courtesy of HDBlog.it is that the speaker grills are located on the bottom much as they are on the Galaxy Note 3 (they are on top on the Galaxy S5). The interface is set to Vietnamese where Samsung has a factory, giving some credence to the fact that this could be a manufacturing prototype.
It should be pointed out that nowhere are the names Galaxy F or Galaxy S5 mentioned. But there are few possible options for such a high end display at this point in time. The only other possibility could be the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 as some recent rumours have suggested it will also come with a WQHD display.
Sadly, there are no other details to go with the images. Assuming that the SM-G906S is none other than the Samsung Galaxy F or Galaxy S Prime, it may well come with some impressive specifications though. Among them are a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 paired with an Adreno 420 GPU, Google Android 4.4.2 KitKat (likely with TouchWiz), a 5.2-inch WQHD (2560×1440) display, 3 GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 15MP rear camera (more likely a 16MP one), 2MP front-camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a range of sensors including a barometer.
