September 3 is shaping up to be a busy day. We already know that Sony will hold a press conference on that day, likely to announce the Xperia Z3. It now appears that Samsung will hold a similar event on the same day to unveil its latest phablet, the Galaxy Note 4. Samsung is expected to send out invitations to the event “soon” an unnamed executive at Samsung’s top-tier display supplier told The Korea Times yesterday.
While the event will take place under the umbrella of IFA 2014, if history holds true, it will be a Samsung Unpacked event at which the company will not only unveil the Galaxy Note 4 but likely a range of new accessories including the expected Gear VR headset.
Without revealing details, Samsung Electro-Mechanics Chief Financial Officer has already promised that the Galaxy Note 4 will have “far better specifications than the Galaxy S5 smartphone.” The report suggests that among these will be a Qualcomm processor, a 5.7-inch OLED display, a metal frame and a UV sensor. Past rumours have been more specific suggesting either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 or Samsung Exynos 5433 (depending on region), a 5.7-inch WQHD (2560×1440) display, Android 4.4 KitKat, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and either a 16MP or 12MP camera with OIS.
A curved OLED display version could also be announced but it may well see limited distribution if it does indeed materialize.
