It appears that there has been another setback in Samsung’s plans to launch a Tizen smartphone. Following rumours that Samsung would host an event focused on Tizen ahead of MWC 2014, NTT DoCoMo, comes word that the launch has been delayed once more. Samsung had at one time hoped to launch its first Tizen smartphones in 2013. Since then, a string of delays has gradually pushed the launch into 2014.
The decision to push the release back once more reportedly comes from a Samsung official speaking at Samsung Electronics’ Media Solution Center (MSC) in Korea: “It is true that the release has been delayed,” they said. “Previously we did had planned to release in the first half of this year in several countries, including Korea and Russia.”
No word was given for the decision. Past delays have been attributed to Tizen not being quite ready and it’s not clear if this once again the case. The news follows a report that NTT DoCoMo, which was to have been among the first carriers to offer Tizen smartphones, has decided to postpone its launch plans over concerns that there is not enough demand for a new mobile operating system in Japan.
As for the February 23 date, it now appears that Samsung may use it to unveil the much anticipated Galaxy S5.
