Canadians are increasingly turning to their smartphones to help with their shopping. From a quick price comparison to ensure that they are getting the lowest price to mobile wallets and mobile payment transactions, the smartphone is quickly becoming the tool of choice. Rogers recognized the trend early on and has been developing a portfolio of services to support mobile commerce. Today, the company unveiled Mobile Shopper which will offer customers “mobile offers, applications and mobile payments technology all with their smartphone.”
Mobile Shopper is a machine-to-machine (M2M) solution that promises to “breathe new life into the Canadian retail experience” when customers opt into the program. It does so by:
- Enabling customers to engage with their favourite retailers across multiple channels from social media to the web and the store;
- Ensuring customers get targeted and personalized offers, messages and information that are relevant to them;
- Offering an efficient transaction process with mobile point-of-sale solutions and tap-and-go technology.
“Access to real-time information and applications on mobile devices is changing how Canadians shop and make purchase decisions. Rogers Mobile Shopper gives Canadians a personal in-store shopping experience right to their smartphone,” said Mansell Nelson, Vice-President, Advanced Business Solutions, Rogers. “For retailers, this connected solution allows them to deliver more value to customers, increase loyalty and drive revenue.”
Needless to say, in exchange for this enhanced shopping experience, retailers will get a better insight into who their customers are. The data collected to better tailor their offers to customers and to increase in-store traffic and sales.
RioCan, Canada’s largest shopping centre owner, will be the first to trial the Rogers Mobile Shoppersolution. It will do so in a number of Ontario shopping centres.
Rogers Mobile Shopper looks set to nicely complement the Rogers Alerts service introduced last October, its Vicinity loyalty program (which we reviewed) and its upcoming SureTap Wallet.
