OnePlus disappointed more than one when it announced just days ago that it did not expect that most people would be able to get their hands on their new OnePlus One flagship smartphone until sometime in June. The company also announced that it would begin production with the 16GB model and then shift to the 64GB one, pushing out availability of the latter out further. The company today acknowledged that demand for the 64GB model is higher to that of the 16GB and made changes to its production schedule to try to get the 64GB model out faster.
After seeing how popular the 64GB version was compared to the 16GB, we have pushed back the production of the 16GB Silk White in favor of getting the 64GB Sandstone Black out quicker.
With this move, OnePlus now expects to have the first batch of the 64GB model ready sometime between late May and early June. It appears likely that most will still have to wait until late June but it may mean a couple less weeks of waiting as well.
Here is what the new production schedule looks like:
- Ready now – 100 for phone smashers
Mid to late May – Larger batch 16GB Silk White for the first batch of invites- Late May to early June – Larger batch 64GB Sandstone Black
- Later in June – Increased general availability, people who want it should be able to get an invite without much trouble in June
Production of the 16GB Silk White model has been pushed back to an indefinite point in time.
It sounds like good news for all except those who ordered the 16GB OnePlus One.
