There are wearables and then there are wearables. Nokia, freshly acquired by Microsoft, is once again dabbling into fashion. Following its interactive dress made up of 80 Lumia 1520 smartphones, Nokia is back with an item of clothing that could prove to be far more useful. Working with British designer A. Sauvage, Nokia has created what it calls the first ever pair of wireless charging trousers. If your smartphone is low on power, all you have to do is stick it in your pocket and your pants will take care of the rest.
The same inductive charging technology found in the Nokia DC-50 wireless charging plate is found in these trousers. It also just happens that the DC-50 comes with its own 2400mAh battery to recharge your smartphone without having to resort to an inelegant power cord running from your pants to the nearest outlet.
Adam Johnson, Marketing Director for Microsoft Mobile (UK and Ireland), commented:
“We have a proud history of working within fashion, having previously collaborated with Bruce Weber and David Bailey, as well as recent partnerships at New York and London Fashion Week.
Continuing this theme, we are excited to work alongside a talented designer such as A. Sauvage. As well as having the vision to co-create these amazing wireless charging trousers, his style complements the cutting-edge design of the new Lumia 930 smartphone perfectly.”
Best of all for anyone who has wondered if (or when) it would be possible to charge their smartphone by simply putting it their pocket, these trousers will soon be available for pre-order on Amazon. There is no word about pricing yet.
