Nokia Normandy to launch as part of Asha line in March?

Rumoured Nokia Normandy

Nokia will hold a press event at MWC 2014. Speculation to date suggests that it will either to unveil new Lumia smartphones (including a new Lumia 1820 flagship with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and a 5.2-inch QHD (2560×1440) display) or its oft-rumoured Android-powered Nokia Normandy entry-level smartphone. New details have now emerged that gives the latter further credibility.

An unnamed senior Nokia executive has reportedly told GoAndroid that the Nokia Normandy will launch in India as part of its Asha line. Given that previous Asha handsets have carried numbers as their names, it remains to be seen if the Normandy will launch as the Nokia X or also end up as a numbered Asha device.

Should Nokia launch the Nokia X in March, an event to unveil its first Android smartphone at MWC 2014 is certainly plausible.

The Nokia X is expected to launch with a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, a 4-inch WVGA (480×800) display, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage with additional storage via microSD cards and a 5MP rear camera. It will be available in six colours with both single-SIM and dual-SIM variants being available.

The Nokia X is aimed at emerging markets such as India. Should Nokia indeed launch it, something that is still unsure given Microsoft’s acquisition, it is unlikely to make it to mature markets such as North America.
