When Google unveiled its Google Play edition program last year, one of the first smartphones to be part of it was the HTC One. History now looks set to repeat itself. The usually reliable @evleaks today tweeted that there will be an All New HTC One Google Play edition. No further details were given but it will presumably follow the All New HTC One release and once again be available through Google Play.
@evleaks‘ tweet includes a picture of the HTC M8 in a perforated case through which both the time and weather are displayed. It will presumably also support other types of notifications.
How this case works exactly remains to be seen. Will the All New HTC One come with a Moto X-like Active Display feature allowing it to turn on portions of the screen for notifications when used with a compatible case? Or does the case come with an embedded pixelated display of its own?
Holes. Time. Colors. Also, like its predecessor, look for M8 to arrive as a Google Play Edition. pic.twitter.com/HtklHp2GP1

HTC will unveil the All New HTC One at an event on March 25.
Update: A new image of the perforated case shows it will be available in different colours:
