While the Samsung Galaxy S5 was a small evolution in terms of form factor over its predecessor, the Galaxy S4, the same may not be true about the next Galaxy Note. In the same Reuters interview in which he confirmed that the Galaxy S5 was already outselling the Galaxy S4, Samsung executive Yoon Han-kil teased that the company was planning a new version of the Galaxy Note with a “new form factor” for the second half of the year.
Unfortunately, Yoon gave no details as to what we could expect to see for the Galaxy Note 4. Note also that we presume that that Yoon was referring to the Note 4 rather than the Note tablets but the statement is generic enough that it could apply to either. Yoon would only add, “Our ultimate goal is to make products that consumers really aspire to have. This is how we are trying to find a breakthrough in the stagnant premium market.”
While there have been rumours that it could come with a WQHD (2560×1440) display and would be dust and waterproof, these characteristics would hardly constitute a form factor change. Could Samsung be considering a flexible display perhaps? Perhaps Yoon was just getting the hype going on what could well be Samsung’s next flagship device, unless it does announce the oft-rumoured premium Galaxy F/Galaxy S Prime smartphone first.
