Along with their new Huaweid Ascend G6 4G, Huawei today became the latest manufacturer to jump into the wearables market. As part of its Mobile World Congress announcements, the Chinese company unveiled the Huawei TalkBand B1. It is billed as “the perfect hybrid ‘talk and track’ companion.” Rather than the expected smartwatch, it is a fitness band with a small twist.
The smart wristband is built around a 1.4-inch flexible OLED display and a removable Bluetooth 4.1 earpiece for phone calls. Compatible with both Android 2.3+ and iOS 5.0+, it can be paired with a wide range of smartphones. Syncing is done via NFC. As with similar products, it comes with a number of health tracking features. Parameters it can track include activity time and progress, steps taken and distance covered as well as calories burned. It also has smart alarm and nap functions and can record sleep duration and quality.
It weighs 26 grams and is 14.6 millimeters thick. Its 90mAh battery is reportedly good for six days and can be recharged in two hours. It will come in a variety of colours as you can see from the image above.
The Huawei TalkBand B1 will first launch in China next month. It will make its way to Japan, the Middle East, Russia and Western Europe starting in Q2 2014. No details were provided as to North American availability or pricing.
