Motorola to unveil new devices on September 4

Motorola September 4 2014 eventThe first few days of September are already looking like a veritable smorgasbord of new device announcements. For those always wanting a little bit more, Motorola today announced that it will hold a press event on September 4 where it will unveil a number of new devices. The event will not happen in Berlin where IFA 2014 will once again take place but in Chicago, home of the company’s headquarters.

As you can see from the invitation itself, Motorola is planning to unveil at least four new devices: Two smartphones denoted by the X and G symbols, the Moto 360 smartwatch denoted by the watch and some kind of headphone accessory. The two smartphones are likely to be none other than the oft-rumoured Moto X+1 and the Moto G successor (Moto G+1 or Moto G2?).

The Moto X+1 will likely be the company’s next flagship device. Recent rumours suggest that it will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, a 5.1- or 5.2-inch Full HD (1080×1920) display, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, a 12MP rear camera, 5MP front camera and a 2,900mAh battery.

The Moto G+1 will succeed the Moto G. It is expected to come with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, Android 4.4.4 KitKat, a 5-inch HD (720×1280) display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP front camera and the usual array of sensors. It could launch as early as September 10.

As for the Moto 360, it was first announced back in March when Google first unveiled Android Wear. It will likely be the first Android Wear smartwatch to come with a circular display. If it lives up to the hype that surrounds it, this could well be the smartwatch to have.

We’ll bring you all the details of Motorola’s announcement on September 4.
