The LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live were the first Android Wear smartwatches to go on sale when they did so on the first day of Google I/O 2014 earlier this week. Meanwhile, anyone looking for the Moto 360 will need to wait until “ater this summer.” Now comes word that it’s also waiting for the Moto X+1. A source close to Motorola has told Phone Arena that they will launch at the same time and that both will be available through MotoMaker.
Launching the Moto 360 through MotoMaker suggests that Motorola wants to offer the same customizability experience that it now offers with the Moto X. Among these should be a black or silver-colour watch case as well as a number of wristbands, including leather, metal and rubber ones. What’s not so clear is what options will be available at launch. Only the leather bands were on display at Google I/O, suggesting that some options may only be introduced later.
It’s still not clear exactly when the Moto 360 and Moto X+1 will launch but rumours point fairly consistently to an August or late summer time frame. Let’s hope that MotoMaker is ready for Canada by then as we have yet to see it here.
By then, the Android Wear smartwatch may be even more crowded. Both the HTC One Wear and an affordable and thin model from ASUS codenamed Robin could launch around the same time.
