Motorola has yet to announce exactly when the Moto 360 will launch and how much it will sell for. While the former remains a bit of a mystery, the Moto 360 retail price appeared to have been revealed when the contest rules to a Moto 360 watchface contest valued the upcoming smartwatch at about US$249 (about CA$275). In response to one Google+ user commenting on the price, Motorola dismissed the published price as being for “tax purposes only.”
Hi Michal. Thanks for your excitement around our Moto 360 Design Face-Off contest! We want to make clear that the “Approximate Retail Value” (ARV) indicated in our rules is included for tax purposes only and should not be interpreted as the suggested retail price of the Moto 360 when it becomes available for purchase.
Needless to say, Motorola probably does not want to tip its hand on pricing too early. It’s also likely that Motorola has not finalized the purchase price. If nothing else, the contest pricing gives us a sense of the price point Motorola is looking to hit.
A separate rumour earlier this week pegged the price of the Moto 360 in Europe at €249 (about CA$370).
The Moto 360 is expected to launch later this summer and will be offered in a variety of styles.
