Motorola’s resurgence began last year with the innovative Moto X. Nearly a year later, the company has confirmed the obvious: It will launch a successor sometime this summer. Early rumours suggested that Motorola would call this new device the Moto X+1. It now appears that the company itself has confirmed that this will be the name of its next flagship smartphone.
Replacing the parameter FLEXR1, the original Moto X’s codename, with FLEXR2 in the MotoMaker URL will take you to what appears to be a placeholder for that device. While the page that comes up reveals little, it does show one important detail: The Moto X+1 name.
Little is known about the Moto X+1 at this point. One rumour suggests that it will be offered with 25 backplate options, including the wooden ones introduced last year and four new leather ones. It is also likely to benefit from a number of hardware upgrades such as a better processor, a better display and a better camera. Motorola is likely to also to introduce new features on the software side, such as enhancements to its Touchless Controls and Active Display.
There is a chance that Motorola could unveil the Moto X+1 at it next event. Scheduled for May 13, early signs pointed to it being for the ultra-thin Moto E but there is nothing that says that Motorola could not unveil two devices.
Note as well that there is no guarantee that Motorola will go with Moto X+1 as the name of its Moto X successor. This could be no more than a placeholder.
