The inexpensive Moto E from Motorola had been expected to launch in Canada last month. June came and went without sign of Motorola’s new entry-level smartphone but there is good news at last today. The Moto E is now available in Canada through Staples. As expected, it comes unlocked and contract-free for CA$179.
If there is a silver lining to having to wait a bit longer than expected, it is that the Moto E ships with the latest version of Android already preloaded.
Here is a quick reminder of the Moto E’s specifications:
- Processor: Dual-core (1.2GHz × 2) Qualcomm Snapdragon 200
- Operating system: Google Android 4.4.4 KitKat
- Cellular connectivity: HSPA+ (21Mbps)
- Other connectivity: GPS, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE

While the Moto E will not be confused for a flagship smartphone, it is a surprisingly decent device priced very reasonably. You can pick it up for CA$179 unlocked and contract-free from Staples.
