Motorola earlier this week began to roll out an update for its Moto 360 smartwatch. Build KGW42R updates the Moto 360 to Android Wear 4.4W.1 and is primarily a maintenance release that addresses a number of issues raised by users since it went on sale earlier this month in the U.S. Key among these is likely the improvements to Bluetooth connectivity to make the pairing to smartphones more stable.
The official change log lists the following updates:
- Bluetooth connectivity – Improved Bluetooth connectivity between the watch and phone to reduce momentary disconnects experienced by some users.
- Charging notification – Added a message to confirm that Moto 360 is charging in cases when its battery is fully depleted.
- Bug fixes – Implemented bug fixes and other system optimizations.
Don’t panic if you have not yet received this first Moto 360 update. Motorola is rolling out the update in a phased manner and warns that it may take a few days to reach everyone. Your Moto 360 will notify you when the update hits it. Motorola adds that the update requires that your watch be connected to a phone with Internet access and must have a battery level of at least 80%.
The previous build seen, KGW42N, was presumably a beta release or one that Motorola quickly superseded with the KGW42R build as it continues to make improvements to the Moto 360.
Google has also confirmed that additional updates are coming later this year with additional features. The first of these could come as early as October 15.
