It took about six months for the Moto 360 (pictured above in its latest colours) to hit the street after Motorola first revealed it. Early signs suggest that Motorola has a hit on its hand with the round smartwatch accounting for 15% of all smart band shipments in Q3 2014 according to a recent study. Now comes word that its successor could follow as early as early 2015. According to Gleb Mishin, Lenovo’s Vice President and General Manager for Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe, a second generation smartwatch is indeed coming soon.
If the translation of the original report is remotely accurate, the new Motorola smartwatch will sport an updated design that is both “more beautiful” and more like a watch. Could this be a hint that this new model will make use of the full round display and lose the black bar found on the bottom of the Moto 360?
Unfortunately, Mishin revealed little else about this Moto 360 successor.
With the Moto 360 yet to launch in Russia, it seems odd that executives would already be hyping its successor. If the lead time between between the Moto 360’s announcement and launch are any indication, we may not see this new device until the second half of the year.
Here’s hoping that new details about this Moto 360 successor surface soon.
