Minuum shows off keyboard running on Android Wear

Minuum on Android WearWith support for voice commands and a tiny display (when compared to that of a smartphone or tablet), the thought of a keyboard running on an Android Wear smartwatch makes little sense at first thought. But there are times when a keyboard may make more sense than a voice command. Minuum knows that and is among the first to show how such a solution might work.

Billed as the “the little keyboard for big fingers,” the Minuum keyboard sports a a single line layout that actually allows for imprecise typing. Its predictive algorithm takes care of figuring out what you really mean to type. It may not be suitable for typing your next novel on your smartwatch but gives you a workable alternative for shorter messages without having to whip out that smartphone from your pocket.

Minuum has precisely the same goal as the Android Wear platform: simplifying the interface so that it works quickly and without fidgety precision required… If we can make typing amazingly pleasant on smart watch screens, there is plenty of room within the Wear vision for manual natural language input.

In fact, an “early version” is already available for those who want to try it out. All you have to do is sign up at minuum.com/watch and they’ll send you the installation instructions.

Minuum also promises to reveal more about how they will adapt their circular design for the Moto 360 later, namely when they have one to work with.
