With Android L sporting a 64-bit architecture, the move to 64-bit processors will accelerate as manufacturers seek to take advantage of the new feature to distinguish their devices from those of the competition. Among them will be HTC with a new mid-range Desire variant codenamed HTC A11. The HTC Desire816 was codenamed A5 during development so the codename is certainly consistent with a new Desire device.
Revealed by @upleaks (@evleaks‘ successor?) in a series of tweets, the HTC A11 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 and Google Android 4.4.2 with HTC Sense 6.0. An upgrade to Android L would presumably follow sometime in the future to take better advantage of that 64-bit goodness. Other rumoured specifications include a 4.7-inch FWVGA (480×854) display and 5MP and VGA cameras. Missing will be the front-facing HTC BoomSound and a flash for the rear camera.
Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 410 chipset in late 2013. With an integrated LTE modem, it is geared at entry- and mid-range devices. It comes with 64-bit ARM-based application processors, an Adreno 306 GPU (for 1080p video playback and cameras up to 13MP), support for dual and triple SIMs and integrated 4G LTE and 3G cellular connectivity.
At this point, the HTC A11 could be a Sprint exclusive while the HTC Eye, a selfie smartphone, looks to be available more widely as it could head to all four major U.S. carriers. There is no word yet on availability of the HTC A11 outside of the U.S.
There is no word yet on specific availability and pricing.
