Microsoft may finally be getting ready to announce the Surface mini tablet. First rumoured almost a year ago, many expected to launch alongside the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 when they were unveiled in September 2013. But they were not and new rumours began to suggest an early 2014 launch instead. That prediction may soon come true. Microsoft has begun to send out press invitations to a Surface event described as a “small gathering.” It will take place on May 20 in New York City.
While it is entirely plausible that this will indeed be an event with a small guestlist, it is also possible that Microsoft is having a bit of fun with the invitation. The word “small” could be a hint about the smaller Surface.
The invitation reveals no other details but other recent rumours have given us a few hints as to what we can expect from the Microsoft Surface mini. It should come with a 7.5-inch WXGA+ (1440×1080) display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, giving it a squarer look than we have seen from Surface tablets so far. It is also expected to be powered by a Qualcomm processor and Windows RT.
As Microsoft has done with the larger Surface tablets, we can expect a few accessories to be unveiled as well.
