When Guy Laurence took over as Rogers Communications CEO last December, many expected the former Vodafone UK CEO to shake things up at the Canadian giant. It appears that those changes are starting to happen with some changes at the top. According to an email obtained by MobileSyrup, at least two senior executives are leaving the company.
The email, penned by Rob Bruce, President of Rogers Communications, indicates that both John Boynton, EVP Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer, and Shelagh Stoneham, SVP and General Manager, Brands and Marcomm, are leaving the company. No reason was given for Boynton’s departure but Stoneham is said to be leaving “to pursue other career opportunities.” The departures suggest that Laurence will make changes to the company’s marketing strategy.
What happens next for both departments will be announced on Friday when Laurence is set to unveil a new strategic plan. In the meantime, both will report to Bruce.
Under Laurence’s leadership, Vodafone UK went through a number of changes. Among them were a cultural transformation that saw formal dress codes and conventional workspaces make way for a greater focus on customer satisfaction, an area that Laurence has identified as one where the company is lagging behind its competitors.
It remains to be seen if these two departures are but the tip of the iceberg as Laurence begins to implement his vision for the company.
