LG could be thinking of returning to the Windows Phone fold. The usually reliable @evleaks has posted an image of a new LG device codenamed LG Uni8 that clearly runs Windows Phone 8.1. Such a device should not be a surprise as LG has dropped hints of a return in the past. LG was also among the new Windows Phone hardware partners Microsoft announced back at Mobile World Congress in February.
Little is known about the device itself at this point but it does appear to borrow a few design tips from the LG G2. It also appears to have done away with hardware buttons in favour of capacitive ones.
It released the Windows Phone 7 LG Optimus 7 (also known as the LG Quantum) and LG Optimus Quantum back in 2010. It exited the Windows Phone market in 2012 over disappointing sales. A company spokesperson described sales at that point as “not a meaningful figure.”
There is no word on availability, pricing and an official name for the LG Uni8. Perhaps those details will turn up in the coming weeks with more leaks and rumours.
