LG today announced its Q2 FY2014 financial results. The South Korean company recorded revenues across all operations of KRW 15.37 trillion (about CA$16.02 billion) and a net profit of KRW 412 billion (CA$429.4 million) but singled out its mobile and TV operations in particular for its strong performance.
On the mobile side, LG announced that it shipped a record 14.5 million smartphones over the quarter, a 20 percent increase over the same quarter last year. That translates to sales of KRW 3.62 trillion (about CA$3.77 billion) and an operating profit of KRW 85.9 billion (CA$89.52 million).
LG attritbuted much of its success to the “initial popularity of the LG G3” in South Korea and strong sales of its L SeriesIII smartphones. The company has been expanding availability of the LG G3 since then and plans a number of additional LG G3 variants such as the recently announced LG G3 Beat, even more recent LG G3 Cat.6 and more L series devices. Among the new variants could be one with stylus input.
LG also announced that LTE devices now account for more than a third of devices shipped this year.
The LG G3 will launch in Canada on August 1. It could be followed at Videotron by the less expensive LG F60.
