LG first announced the LG G2 mini back in February, just ahead of Mobile World Congress. A while later, the usually reliable @evleaks tweeted that the LG G2 mini would be headed to Sprint Wireless as the LG-LS885. That same model number also popped up on Sprint Wireless’ own website in a UAProf file. It has now appeared on the FCC website, suggesting that a launch is getting closer.
But there is a twist in this story. A number of details suggest that the LG-LS885 is not the LG G2 mini. A look at the UAProf file reveals an HD (720×1280) resolution rather than the expected qHD (540×960) one. The FCC documents also list the dimensions of the device as different. Whereas the LG G2 mini measures 129.6 by 66.0 by 9.8 millimeters, the FCC documentation lists them as 137.75 by 69.6 millimeters.
Here’s something else to think about: The dimensions of the Google Nexus 5 are 137.84 by 69.17 by 8.59 millimeters. Very similar measurements. But Sprint already carries the Google Nexus 5 so it should not need certification at this point in time.
As for other details about the LG-LS885, it looks like it will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, Google Android 4.4.2 KitKat, LTE/EVDO/CDMA connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a number of LG apps such as LG Backup and QMemo+.
We’ll have to see if more details surface to shed more light on what the LG-LS885 is exactly. In the meantime, feel free to share your own theories with us below.
