We told you last week that LG had trademarked the brand WinTab, possibly for a new line of Windows tablets. More trademarks that could be related to tablets have now popped up on the website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The new names, Lpad and Wpad are only days old, having been filed late last month.
Once again, little information is provided beyond the name. The description only says that the names will apply to “Smart phones; Tablet computers; Apparatus for recording, transmission or reproduction of sound or images; Computers; Television receivers; Software for mobile phones.”
Let’s conjecture for a moment. LG already offers a G Pad line of Android tablets. On the smartphone side, its LG G3 is the latest flagship device in its G family of devices. It is complemented by a range of less expensive smartphones in the F and L lines. Perhaps LG is now considering a similar approach for tablets. It could offer a line premium tablets under the G Pad brand. A line of cheaper Android tablets could be offered alongside in a new LPad or L Pad family. A line of Windows tablets could also be offered as the WPad or W Pad line.
We’ll have to see if these new names surface again in the future.
