With LG G2 sales having to failed to meet the company’s own internal sales goals, LG is turning its attention to its next flagship device and may launch it sooner than initially planned in the hopes that it will sell better than the LG G2. A report by Korea’s Asia Economic now suggests that LG could launch the LG G3 as early as May.
Citing unnamed industry sources, the report indicates that the LG G3 will come with a WQHD (2560×1440) display. This certainly lines up with past rumours that have made similar claims, adding that it will also come with an octa-core processor developed by LG (codenamed Odin) and a 16MP camera.
LG could also launch another smartphone with a QHD display before the LG G3. It could unveil the LG G Pro 2, the successor to last year’s Optimus G Pro in February, perhaps at MWC 2014. This would give the company a smartphone that can be positioned against the Samsung Galaxy S5 until the LG G3 launches.
There were recent signs that LG could be readying the LG G3’s launch when the mysterious LG-F350L was spotted on Korean carrier LG U+’s official website.
As expected, the flagship smartphone battles are quickly moving into QHD territory. By the end of the year, it is unlikely that a smartphone sporting a Full HD (1080×1920) display will be considered a flagship device anymore.
