LG today revealed details about the global rollout of its LG G Watch R smartwatch. Unveiled just days before IFA 2014, it launched in South Korea earlier this month and is now ready to take on the rest of the world. With its 1.3-inch (320×320) P-OLED display, it is also set to compete directly against the only other Android Wear watch with a circular display, the Moto 360.
The rollout will kick off in early November in Europe including countries such as France, Italy, Spain and the UK. Key markets in North America, Asia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will follow soon after. The LG G Watch R will also be sold on Google Play in “select markets” in “the weeks ahead.”
LG also acknowledged with today’s announcement that it has focused far more attention on esthetics than it did with the LG G Watch which launched only months ago:
“While the original G Watch was designed to be a no-nonsense, pure Android Wear device, the G Watch R was developed with a more aesthetic eye,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The G Watch R represents LG’s commitment to meld form and functionality together in perfect harmony and to create a device that not only looks great but more importantly, offers technology that makes life more convenient.”
