LG announced its upcoming LG G Watch shortly after Google announced its new Android Wear extension of Android for wearable devices. It did not provide much in terms of details at the time but that is starting to change partly thanks to a new promotional sitelet launched for the smartwatch.
While no detailed specifications are yet available, we know now that it will be water and dust resistant (specific IP rating not revealed) and available in at least two colours: Stealth Black and Champagne Gold (a gold watch body with a a white strap). More interesting is that the display will apparently always be on (“A screen that never sleeps”) and will show the time when not in use. How such a feature affects the battery life remains to be seen.
We already know that the LG G Watch will be powered by Android Wear. That means that it will be possible to perform certain actions through voice commands that start with “Ok Google.” It will also show contextual information in the form of Google Now cards.
LG plans to launch the LG G Watch sometime in Q2. There is still no word on pricing.
