LG yesterday unveiled the LG G Pro 2, its successor to the LG Optimus G Pro. The company would only confirm that it would launch in Korea later this month, saying that further availability has “not yet been determined.” Shortly after the announcement, LG executives revealed the first details of this global rollout to ZDNet Korea.
According to Cho Sung Ha who heads up sales in Korea, “The G Pro 2 will be launched in Korea within this month. Starting in March, we will launch it in Asian countries where demand for large-screen phablets is the highest.” He then added that, “We will release the G Pro 2 in regions such as the US and Europe after that.”
Other company executives also told ZDNet Korea that the LG G Pro 2 will not hit Europe and U.S. shores until early April at the earliest.
Given that its predecessor, the LG Optimus G Pro, has yet to land in Canada, it is at this point unlikely that the LG G Pro 2 will be offered here.
According to company market surveys, demand for phablets is highest in Asia where the preferred size falls in the 5.5-inch range. U.S. consumers prefer slightly smaller devices with 5.2-inch displays on average while Europeans look for devices with 5-inch displays.
