LG files trademark for LG G3 name for Canada and U.S.

LG G3 USPTO filing

If further evidence was needed that LG would name its successor to the LG G2 anything but LG G3, a trademark filing should put those doubts to rest. Filed with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) earlier this month, it confirms that LG is looking to trademark the G3 name in both the U.S. and Canada. The filing also confirms that LG intends to use the name for a mobile phone.

The filing itself reveals little about what is expected to be LG’s next flagship smartphone. Past rumours have suggested that it could be LG’s first smartphone to come with a WQHD (2560×1440) display. It could also come with an octa-core LG processor (perhaps the Odin with an ARM big.LITTLE architecture and four 2.0GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.4GHz Cortex-A7 ones), 3GB of RAM, a 16MP camera (perhaps with LG’s new OIS+ found on the LG G Pro 2).

The LG G3 is expected to launch sometime in the second half. Rumours have suggested that LG is trying to move the launch up, perhaps as early as May, in a bid to face off against the Samsung Galaxy S5 and other flagship smartphones expected in the next few weeks.

Thanks, tipster!
