LG Electronics today announced its Q1 FY2014 financial results. It raked up revenues of KRW14.27 trillion (about CA$15.23 billion) with a net profit of KRW92.60 billion (about CA$98.8 million). The LG Mobile Communications Company shipped 12.3 million smartphones over the quarter, a 19 percent increase over the same quarter a year ago. Revenues at the business unit rose 6 percent year-over-year to KRW3.41 trillion (about CA$3.7 billion) and LG expects better results in the second quarter in part thanks to the “release of the flagship LG G3 smartphone.”
While no big surprise, it is the first time that LG mentions its next flagship smartphone by name. The move also confirms a Q2 launch, putting the launch in the April to June time frame. If so, it would come earlier than recent rumours have suggested. Those had LG announcing the LG G3 in late June and launching it in early July but for the device to make a financial contribution to the quarter, it could launch even earlier.
LG provided no details beyond the name and general launch window about the LG G3. Past rumours have it coming with a 5.5-inch WQHD (2560×1440) display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM and volume and power buttons on the back as they were on the LG G2. That last was apparently confirmed by a leaked image just days ago.
