LG bringing 6-inch WQHD display to SID 2014

LG Display 6-inch WQHD panel

LG just days ago unveiled the LG G3, its first smartphone to come with a WQHD (2560×1440) display. It should come as no surprise that LG’s plan for WQHD displays do not stop there. LG Display is bringing its next generation of display panels to SID 2014 which takes place in San Francisco from June 3 to June 5, 2014. While most will focus on the TV and large display market, there will also be a new 6-inch WQHD display.

The new 6-inch WQHD display will pack 491 pixels per inch, not quite as high as the 538 PPI count on the 5.5-inch WQHD display found on the LG G3 but still higher than can be found on any FHD display. There is no word yet on what devices could end up using the new panel.

LG will also introduce a 13.3-inch WQHD display for notebooks.

LG’s ambitions do not stop at WQHD. The company is already working on UHD (3840×2160) and higher resolution display panels. Screens with 600 or even 700PPI could well be the next milestone for flagship smartphone territory.
