Lenovo announced in October that it would launch a new company in China in 2015 to sell smart devices and services exclusively online. The new company is meant to emulate Xiaomi’s approach which has seen it become one of the top five smartphone manufacturers in only a few years. New details about Lenovo’s new subsidiary came to light this week courtesy of an interview with Lenovo’s Senior Vice President, Chen Xudong. He revealed that the new company will be called Fancy Maker.
Chen Xudong, who will head up the new company, revealed little else about how Fancy Maker will operate but he hoped that each product launch would be “amazing.” He did not say how the company plans to achieve that though. He did add that he expects that there will be greater focus on apps and services as well as personalization in future products.
As PhoneArena points out, Fancy Maker is quite siimilar to Motorola’s own Moto Maker brand. Now that Lenovo owns Motorola, could its new subsidiary offer a similar personalization service as Motorola offers with Moto Maker?
Fancy Maker is expected to launch in China in April 2015.
