Following a leaked image of the alleged Sony Xperia Z2, images of another Sony Xperia device have surfaced. This time, it’s the Sony D6503 that has been revealed.
The same source that posted the image adds that the Sony D6503 runs Android 4.3 and a new Sony UI (which unfortunately crashes a lot at this point). It also sports a 20.7MP camera. Like the Zperia Z1, the D6503 also reportedly sports a glass back. The flaps also suggest that it will be waterproof.
As for pictures of the new interface, they will likely have to wait until a more stable build. A promise of UI pictures appears to have been prevented by the fact that the prototype keeps crashing and rebooting.
Given past reports that the Sony Xperia Z2 would be a relatively minor update of the Xperia Z1, it is tempting to say that the Sony D6503 and the Xperia Z2 are one and the same. But a number of Xperia Z2 reports have suggested it will bear model number C770x. Could the Sony D6503 really be the Canopus instead? If so, based on more recent rumours, we can expect it to come with a Snapdragon 800 MSM8974-AB processor, a 5-inch display, LTE and WiMAX connectivity, dual-band 802.11 a/g/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Here’s one more more picture of the Sony D6503:
Perhaps all will be sorted out at MWC 2014.
