The BlackBerry Windermere codename has been with us for a while now. The name first surfaced last year with images of a rather odd looking device following in February of this year. New pictures and details have now emerged that suggest that BlackBerry is indeed trying something new for what could well be its next high-end QWERTY keyboard BlackBerry 10 smartphone.
The images confirm that the BlackBerry Windermere sports a large square display and a three-row keyboard below. As with the Q10, a stainless steel bezel will wrap around the device and the same glass weave design may still end up on the back. The top will slide off to reveal slot for the SIM and microSD cards.
Rumoured BlackBerry Windermere specifications:
- Processor: Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800
- Operating system: BlackBerry 10
- Display: 4.5-inch (1440×1440/480PPI)
- RAM: 3GB
- External storage: MicroSD cards
- Rear-facing camera: 13MP with single LED flash
- Front-facing camera: 2MP
- Battery: Non-removeable 3,450mAh
If the form factor is not the most interesting feature of the BlackBerry Windermere, it could be the touch-capacitive keyboard. It will effectively let you use as you would by swiping (like you would with a trackpad). This will allow you to use gestures as you type. For example, a swipe to the left could be used to erase words.
There is no word yet on when BlackBerry could launch the Windermere, perhaps has the Q30 as past rumours have suggested, but it is expected before the end of the year.
