Samsung is a company that likes to make sure that every part of a market is covered by at least one of its devices. That practice continued this week at IFA 2014. After unveiling the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge, Samsung more quietly unveiled the Galaxy Tab Active, its first tablet “built specifically for business.” Based on input from Fortune 500 companies in vertical markets such as retail, logistics and transportation, it sports a rugged design “that professionals desire to take on the demands of today’s challenging business environments.”
“Samsung understands today’s businesses have demanding requirements to enable growth,” said JK Shin, CEO and head of IT & mobile communication at Samsung Electronics. “As a trusted global leader in mobile technology, Samsung is ready and able to deliver solutions built specifically for professional-use, featuring innovative offerings and technological capabilities that are unmatched anywhere in the market.”
Its anti-shock covering allows the Galaxy Tab Active to withstand a 1.2-meter drop when its protective cover is on. The “C-Pen” offers an alternative to touch input for those who wear gloves. Battery life is rated at 8 to 10 hours, enough for a business day while the built-in POGO pin charging prevents potential damage to the micro-USB connector in more demanding work environments.
