While Mobile World Congress has traditionally focused on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, we can expect to see more than a few wearable devices at this year’s event. For example, Samsung is expected to unveil its Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch alongside the Galaxy S5 at the event. According to The New York Times, you can now add Huawei to the list of companies set to unveil a smartwatch there.
Huawei has confirmed that it will unveil its first smartwatch along with a new smartphone and two new tablets. It declined to provide any details about any of the devices except to say that the smartphone will not be a successor to its flagship Ascend P6. As many other manufacturers are now doing, it will instead hold a dedicated launch event for it sometime later this year.
Huawei, already the third largest smartphone manufacturer, last summer hired ex-Nokia’s Colin Giles as Executive Vice President, Huawei Consumer Business Group, in a bid to establish itself as a “leading global brand in the smartphone industry.”
